This passage about culture is kind of in many places. This article blah blah’ed on about nothing. To summarize it talked about America and its culture and guys who wrote about stuff and what America is doing about there culture. There are a lot of things America can do to be not stereo typed as a standard Anglo-American man. America in my eyes has no culture and probably never will. Our country is sonly based on other cultures from other countries. If you want to really take I back the American culture is what ever the native American culture is. American is only a couple hundred years old and it is based off of other people cultures, the immigrants that founded our nation. American should have equal right for everyone. This article bored me and didn’t make to much sense to me, so if my article doesn’t make sense to you it’s like reading the article again.
The Obligation We Endure
•April 23, 2008 • Leave a CommentOur environment is the most important thing we have to offer and we are tearing it down day by day. We are based off money and no matter what people say or try to do its not going to stop the people in power from making there money. The resources in our world are getting chopped by companies every second. Only we can stop this but it will make life harder so people don’t do much about it. The chemicals we spray to kill the insects I think are killing us, there is no way that these chemicals are getting thoroughly washed off. Some of these animals do kill our crops but some one and I think its all in succession and the insects are meant to do this. By doing this its going to come back to haunt us because I’m sure these chemicals are polluting the air and bringing our quality of living down, but as long as the main companies are making money they could care less about the people. This article is interesting and something that really opens your eyes about what’s going on.
Bad News
•April 17, 2008 • 3 CommentsI the article Bad new it talks about how the Americans are more fearful for bigger attacks that usually wouldn’t happen as often as little attacks. Americans think the worst of terrorist attacks, they think that they’ll get blown up by a plane from a terrorist than they well get hurt on there own soil. The media in my mind plays the biggest roll in all this because they don’t cover what happens at home as much they play what might happen and what could be planning to happen. Terrorist attacks kill a lot of people at one time but there are more things that happen everyday that kills people. People don’t think that since there home they are free of crime and bad stuff that happens at home. It seems that American people think those terrorists are out to get them. This article can relate with what is going on now they we are focus some much on what the terrorist are and we are forgetting the terrorist that terrorize our country everyday that live here. People in America needs to get off the media and realize anything can happen anytime. To me it seems that we live off the media and what ever they say we are going to believe it and live by it even if it is wrong.
AIDS in Africa
•April 16, 2008 • 1 CommentIn the article “aid in Africa” it gives us a background on aid and the effects of it. Aids are the biggest sexually transmitted disease on this earth and it affects millions of people everyday. When this article talks about what can be done to stop the spread of aids and the little precautions we can take to stop this virus. Simple things such as better sanitation, living conditions, better nutrition can stop the effectiveness of the aids virus. Aids are most common in Africa and sub-Saharan countries because there is poor sanitation and poor living conditions. It’s hard for women to stop getting these diseases because they are using there bodies to provide for there children and it easily spread that way. The aids virus is more active in poverty areas because they can afford proper protection for safer sex and proper sanitary measures. Aids are everywhere and all over the world and if we don’t take drastic measures to help promote safer sex and better sanitation I’ll be worse than the black plague.
Life on the Global assembly Line
•April 15, 2008 • Leave a CommentA good way to start out for this article would be wow. Why I am saying wow is because I didn’t know people still got treat like they where next to nothing. For this passage “Life on the global assembly line” I got a good sense of how gender plays a major role in these third world countries doing most the first worlds countries work. Everything about this article is degrading and knowing how these women are being treated is terrible. The women in these third world country aren’t like women in the United State where they wake up, got a nine to five and come home and he with there families, the women in third world countries who work for these “sweat shops” go to work from seven to when ever there quota is met.
From the article women have to leave there homes and live in dormitories that fit maybe four people but they pack 20 in each room to sleep. While one set of women are working on there shift the next set is sleep and visa versa. The condition in these textile shops are deadly, there is poor ventilation, poor lighting, and these women are working on top of each other. There are some more modern shops that have air conditioning and radio but it is not for the workers it’s to preserve the machines and keep the noise down.
The biggest problem in these factories is how sexist they are. They typically on give job to young women under the age of 23 because it’s cheaper. They use “oriental” women because there hands are small, they work fast, and they use a lot of care. But the real reason is they are easy to boss around. A young man would quit or fight back, but a young female may cry a little bit and get back to what she is doing. Gender is the key factory on how these third world countries get there workers. They say there is a good side to it and that is women are making money and getting a new experience, in my eyes this is the wrong experience to give someone.
In my own words this article gives a great example on how women are degraded at the expense of the American consumer. Women are playing these rolls of major globalization because they don’t have the courage to fight back. The government is playing the biggest role in globalization but this kind of globalization I do not approve o
Final Project
•March 21, 2008 • Leave a CommentThe way i’m going towards my final project is how gender plays a roll in modern day society. There are plenty of cultures in our nation and in there cultures women and men play different rolls. In the United States all men andwomen are created equal and they play equal rolls. Even in america when women are created equal to men in come culture women are still lower than men.
My direction is focused toward the roll women and men play in other culture in the United States. I want talk about the main cultures in america and what the roll of men and women are. I also want to do history of how gender played a roll in american culture. We all know women didnt have equal rights as men in early days and i would like to talk about how they has changed in such a short time.
BARACK OBAMA
•March 3, 2008 • Leave a CommentThe candidate I’m leaning toward is Mr.Barack Obama for the reason he is anti war. From the ads we seen about him, he really hasn’t brought up my issues I stated but to be truthful I just wrote something down. My real issue is ending this pointless war that is just killing innocent people. The main reason to go into
“I’m not asking you to believe. Not in just my ability to bring about real change in
What I look for in a PREZ
•February 29, 2008 • Leave a CommentFour main issues I would to see in a president very and I will explain them. The first issue I would like to see them tackle would be health care because with us being the worlds richest country and most of our citizens not having health care I think that is a problem. Gas prices are something that effects everything in daily life, when gas prices go up everything else goes up because it cost more money to transport stuff. I would like to see my future president bring down the prices of secondary education. The last thing I would like to see would be them to take up the issue of global warming/immargration because they 2 great issues that we have to get sorted out.
What I would look for in a president would be good health, good educational background, knowledge of politics, and someone who is just generally honest like richie roberts(detective american gangster).
APATHY
•February 28, 2008 • 6 CommentsOn the Apathetic issue I think that with every generation that comes along each one is going to get more and more Apathetic. The first article from Derek D. Buck just bashes our generation and from what I see, he calls us a generation with nothing good to offer besides entertainment. I guess he is old because he has no clue what us more catching than what is not catching. From his article every student or almost every student knows nothing and he pretty much makes a joke out of it. Personally I don’t care what he says or thinks of our generation. When you watch politics its not so much the topics there discussing its more about what the democrats are doing wrong and what the republicans are doing wrong. There is not much about what is actually going on its more about competition and who is better. The first article from Jennifer Clark basically put me to sleep so I don’t have much to say about her article. The response was great it kind of mapped out how we think and feel on the apathetic subject. It’s hard to focus on non-entertaining things when you’re tired and beat up for working, school, and life in general. We want to hear and see something that we can relate to and politics isn’t something a 18-24 year old can relate to. We like to listen to why Brittany Spears is crazy and who is getting traded from the Eagles, not Hillary Clinton talking about judicial reforms.
Americans Are Tuning Out the World
•February 26, 2008 • 1 CommentThis passage by Alkman Granitsas was a good description on how Americans don’t pay attention to the rest of the world. As I noticed there hasn’t been much world news in our daily news its more home based. In a way it does seem like there is only two cultures in the world, American and everything else. Due to immigration America has become the center of everything because everyone wants to be here. Granitsas talks about Americans not owning passport and I think it’s true because not many people I know have passports because they don’t travel to foreign countries. Usually you get a passport to travel on vacation but many Americans vacation in the U.S. because it’s safer. Americans are almost like North Korean where they don’t go out of the country, not because they can’t just because they don’t think it’s safe to leave. Granitsas says theirs something in America that every wants and I think it’s our sense of power and opportunity that other countries don’t offer. Many countries have their own freedoms but none such as us, people want to pursue that American dream and by coming over here they can. In the passage he sums it up well, that we have something everyone wants. American does take what we have to offer well that’s why we have been tuning out the rest of the world.
